Rubber Design provides high-quality components for rudder stock installations, ensuring seamless integration into rudder systems. These include the rudder trunk, rudder stock, bearings, and seals, which together form a reliable and efficient solution. Please note that this scope of supply excludes the steering mechanism, hydraulic systems, and rudder blade.
Rudder Stock Installations – Scope of Supply:
The scope of supply is categorized into welding and mounting parts. The welding of the welding parts is done by the shipyard, while the mounting parts are installed by Rubber Design Service Engineers or shipyard personnel.
Welding Parts:
• The rudder trunk is welded into the hull. It is designed and machined to ensure precise fitting of the bearings. After welding, the bearing surfaces are machined on-site to correct any deformation caused by the welding process.
• The rudder stock is welded to the rudder blade. It is designed and machined based on the rudder blade specifications. It also includes a grounding cable connection and a key connection for attaching the tiller.
Mounting Parts:
• The top bearing, positioned at the top of the rudder trunk, can be either a sleeve bearing or a spherical roller bearing. The sleeve bearing is mounted using pressing or freezing techniques. The selection between the sleeve or spherical roller bearing depends on the distance between the top and bottom bearings and the related forces acting on the top bearing.
• The bottom bearing, positioned at the bottom of the rudder trunk, is a sleeve bearing that is mounted using pressing or freezing techniques.
• The split carrier ring ensures that all components remain firmly in place.
• The internal seals consist of a housing, positioned at the bottom of the top bearing, with two active lip seals and a housing, positioned at the top of the top bearing, with one lip seal and a grease connection.
• The external seal has a housing, positioned at the bottom of the bottom bearing, with one lip seal, protecting the rudder trunk from water ingress.
• The rudder stock installation includes an impact protection mechanism designed to safeguard the bearings against vertical forces, such as those experienced when hitting the ground.
This system offers a reliable and efficient solution for rudder stock installations, perfectly suited for superyachts and alike.
